Developer Clarifies Silksong Release Timeline After Xbox Showcase Confusion
The developers behind Hollow Knight: Silksong have recently addressed the buzz caused by its brief appearance during Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase 2025. The trailer appeared alongside the reveal of the new ROG Ally X handheld console, sparking widespread speculation about the game’s release schedule.
Misleading Statements at the Xbox Showcase
During the event, Xbox President Sarah Bond mentioned that Silksong would be “available at launch and in Game Pass when the ROG Ally releases later this year.” Many fans interpreted this as the game being timed specifically to coincide with the launch of the new handheld, which is expected to arrive during the Holiday season of 2025.
Official Clarification from Team Cherry
However, the development team at Team Cherry has now clarified the situation. In a message posted on the game’s official Discord server, marketing manager Matthew “Leth” Griffin emphasized that Silksong is not waiting for the ROG Ally X’s launch. Instead, the game will be released before the holiday season, specifically before Christmas.
When asked whether Griffin was referring to Christmas, he confirmed, “Yes, Christmas.” He also reassured fans that the game’s release is not tied to any specific console or hardware launch.
Possible Release Window and Key Events
So, how soon can fans expect Silksong to finally be released? Notably, the game will be playable at an Australian museum dedicated to screen culture in Melbourne starting September 18. This suggests that a launch as early as September might still be possible.
Despite the ambiguity, fans hoped for a more concrete release date during the Xbox showcase, especially since recent updates to the game’s Steam store page hinted at an imminent launch—possibly even a surprise drop. Unfortunately, the showcase instead featured the delayed release of Final Fantasy XVI, leaving many wondering when Silksong will finally arrive.
Stay Tuned for the Launch
With Christmas only six months away, the window for Silksong’s release seems to be narrowing. Meanwhile, IGN has already tested the ROG Ally X, so fans eager to play Silksong on the new handheld can look forward to its release soon.
