A Wardrobe Malfunction Caught on Camera

Legendary Star Wars actor Mark Hamill experienced an unexpected wardrobe mishap at the 2025 BAFTAs. During his speech while accepting the award for Best Film with the Conclave team, his pants unexpectedly slipped down, creating a memorable moment on the red carpet. Despite the embarrassment, Hamill revealed that fellow Hollywood icon Demi Moore was quick to offer her support with a reassuring thumbs-up from the audience.

Hamill Recounts the Incident on National Television

In an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Hamill described the incident as “the ultimate actor’s nightmare.” He explained that his pants, which had fit comfortably during fittings prior to the ceremony, suddenly became an issue during the event. “I tried those pants on twice—once at my house in California, and my stylist fitted them,” Hamill recalled. “He asked, ‘How are they?’ and I said, ‘Fine, a little snug, but they’ll do. You could let them out a skosh.’”

The Chaos Before the Show

Hamill detailed how he prepared for the big night in London. “We had a car ready, and I put on the same pants,” he said. “Our dresser, Mary, let them out by four or five inches! She pinned them at the back with a safety pin, and I thought I was good to go.” Despite the precautions, things took a turn for the worse just moments before stepping onto the stage.

The Unfortunate Fall and a Supportive Glance

As Hamill approached the podium, he felt the safety pin pop. “With every step, my pants slipped lower and lower,” he shared. “By the time I reached the stage, they were at my knees!” Looking out into the crowd, Hamill searched for someone familiar and locked eyes with Demi Moore. He mouthed, “Did you see my pants fall down?” Her quick, supportive thumbs-up and big smile helped him manage the moment with humor.

Keeping Calm in the Face of Embarrassment

Despite the incident, Hamill remained composed. “I just focused, like hypnosis, trying to convince myself that it was all an illusion,” he explained. “I stuck to the teleprompter and didn’t acknowledge the wardrobe mishap. I didn’t want to make a joke or draw attention to it.” His professionalism turned an awkward situation into a humorous story worth sharing.

The Aftermath and a Lesson in Security

Later, the BAFTAs director explained to Hamill that the podium’s placement prevented the front-row audience from seeing his pants, though those sitting to the sides could. Hamill also humorously assured fans that his wardrobe is now securely fastened: “Trust me, my pants are very secure tonight.”

Future of Luke Skywalker and Hamill’s Career

Fans curious about a potential return to the Star Wars universe as Luke Skywalker should note that Hamill has ruled out reprising his iconic role. He stated that it’s time for the franchise to move beyond legacy characters and focus on new stories and characters, embracing the future of Star Wars.
