Mia Goth Joins Ryan Gosling in Upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter as Villain

Exciting Cast Announcement for Star Wars: Starfighter

The cast of Star Wars: Starfighter is gradually coming together, with reports indicating that Mia Goth has signed on to join Ryan Gosling in the highly anticipated sci-fi film. This addition has already generated buzz among fans eager for fresh stories set in a galaxy far, far away.

Mia Goth’s Role and Filming Details

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mia Goth, renowned for her intense performances in the horror series X as Maxine Minx and Pearl, will portray a villain in the movie directed by Shawn Levy, known for Deadpool & Wolverine. Filming is scheduled to commence this fall in England, with a planned release date of May 28, 2027.

Sources suggest that Gosling’s character is tasked with protecting his young nephew from sinister pursuers, one of whom is Goth’s character. Lucasfilm has not officially commented on the casting or storyline details.

Setting and Timeline of Starfighter

Set five years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker, Starfighter is positioned within the broader Star Wars timeline but is designed to be a standalone story. Director Shawn Levy emphasized this at Star Wars Celebration 2025, stating, “This is a standalone. It’s not a prequel or sequel. It’s a new adventure set in a time period we haven’t explored yet.”

This film is expected to be the next major Star Wars release following the 2026 series The Mandalorian and Grogu. Interestingly, the title Starfighter shares its name with a series of video games from the early 2000s, including the original Star Wars: Starfighter (2001) and its sequel Jedi Starfighter (2002). However, it’s unlikely that the film’s plot will draw directly from these games.

Context Within the Star Wars Saga

The Rise of Skywalker concluded with a decisive victory over Emperor Palpatine, but left the state of the galaxy somewhat ambiguous. Daisy Ridley has been confirmed to reprise her role as Rey in a sequel directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, which is set roughly 15 years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker, focusing on Rey’s efforts to rebuild the Jedi Order.

In contrast, Starfighter is set prior to those events, offering fans a new glimpse into an unexplored period of galactic history.
