Introducing the Vibrant Visuals Update: A Fresh Look for Minecraft
Minecraft has long been celebrated for its expansive sandbox worlds and limitless creative possibilities rather than cutting-edge graphics. Its iconic pixelated style has remained largely unchanged since its inception, emphasizing gameplay over visual fidelity. However, the game is now taking a significant step forward with the launch of the highly anticipated Vibrant Visuals update.
What Does the Update Include?
This new update introduces a striking overhaul of Minecraft’s graphics, making the visuals more colorful, detailed, and immersive. The vibrant new look is part of the broader Chase the Skies update, which adds exciting features and gameplay enhancements.
Among the new features are rideable Happy Ghasts — friendly versions of the Nether’s fiery enemies — allowing players to explore the skies in style. Additionally, players can now chain camels together to form resource-carrying caravans and utilize a new Player Locator HUD to find friends more easily.
Device Compatibility and Performance
The Vibrant Visuals update is available now for players on the Minecraft: Bedrock Edition, including versions on PC, PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and certain Android and iOS devices. However, not all platforms will benefit from this upgrade.
Players on older consoles like PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, as well as older Android smartphones, will need to manually enable the new graphics setting through the game’s video options menu. Mojang warns that enabling Vibrant Visuals on these devices may lead to decreased performance and slower gameplay.
For optimal experience, your device should meet the following specifications:
- Android: Adreno 640, Mali-G68, Mali-G77, or Xclipse 530 GPU or higher
- iOS: A12 chip or newer, or M1 processor and above
- PC: Running Minecraft with DirectX 12 support
Please note that split-screen multiplayer, custom worlds, and texture packs are currently not compatible with the Vibrant Visuals update.
What About Nintendo Switch?
As of now, there has been no official confirmation regarding the availability of the Vibrant Visuals update on Nintendo Switch or the upcoming Switch 2. Fans of the console are left waiting for further details about whether they will receive the graphical upgrade in the future.
Microsoft’s Long-Awaited Graphics Overhaul
On a positive note, Minecraft is now officially optimized for Xbox Series X/S, marking a significant milestone nearly five years after the release of the current-generation console. This update finally fulfills Microsoft’s promise to deliver a true graphical upgrade, first hinted at in 2017 with the canceled Super Duper Graphics Pack.
Back then, Mojang announced that the upgrade would come to Xbox One and “Project Scorpio,” which later became Xbox One X. Now, the new Vibrant Visuals update provides a similar experience, elevating Minecraft’s visual presentation on the latest Xbox hardware.
Additional Notes
It’s important to note that the update does not currently support split-screen multiplayer, custom worlds, or texture packs with the new visuals. Players eager for these features may need to wait for future updates.
