Square Enix Unveils Killer Inn, an Exciting Team-Based Social Deduction Game at Summer Game Fest

Square Enix Introduces Killer Inn During Summer Game Fest

At this year’s Summer Game Fest showcase, Square Enix took center stage to unveil an intriguing new social deduction game called Killer Inn. This innovative multiplayer experience promises a mix of mystery, strategy, and teamwork set within a haunting mansion environment.

Gameplay Overview and Objectives

Killer Inn is a murder mystery game developed by Tactics Studio, where players are split into two factions: the Lambs and the Wolves. The action unfolds inside a large, atmospheric mansion, with each team working towards opposing goals.

  • Wolves: Aim to eliminate all Lambs without getting caught.
  • Lambs: Seek to identify and expose the Wolves before they can carry out their deadly plans.

Players explore the mansion, scavenging for survival tools, weapons, and gear hidden in chests or available from in-game merchants. Strategic collection and spending of tokens—earned through completing quests—allow players to unlock better equipment, enhancing their chances of survival or success.

Character Selection and Customization

There are over 20 unique characters to choose from, each with distinct abilities that can be upgraded during a match. Characters can wield various weapons, including guns, knives, and grenades, giving players multiple options to defend themselves or eliminate opponents. This diversity encourages different playstyles and strategic approaches.

Clues, Deduction, and Suspicion Mechanics

When a player is murdered, their body leaves behind clues—such as hair, blood, fingerprints, or clothing—that can help identify the killer. The game aids players in their deduction process by tracking clues and providing UI markers that highlight suspicious activity or rising suspicion levels among other players.

This system helps Lambs narrow down who the Wolves are, adding a layer of strategic investigation to the game. Successfully identifying a Wolf becomes crucial, as Lambs must eliminate them before they can kill again.

Rules and Safe Zones

To prevent reckless violence, the game enforces strict rules: Lambs cannot kill other Lambs, and doing so will result in automatic elimination. Additionally, safe zones are scattered throughout the mansion, where Wolves are forbidden from attacking. In these zones, staff or AI-controlled characters will immediately reveal the Wolves’ identities if they attempt to strike.

Escape and Victory Conditions

Aside from uncovering the Wolves, Lambs can win by escaping the mansion using a boat located at the harbor. Unlocking and reaching the boat is a challenging objective that requires teamwork and careful planning. The game also features a time limit, adding urgency to the investigation and escape efforts.

Upcoming Release and Beta Testing

Killer Inn is preparing for a closed beta test available on Steam soon. However, an official release date has not yet been announced, leaving players eager to experience this exciting social deduction game in the near future.
